What we do

We coach you on the language and layout of your project. This means we help you to understand where your English and layout are not working for you, using your project as an example. Whatever your standard of work, we can help you show it at its best.

Who will be helping you?

Your Coursework Coach from the Oxford Word Salon will have a track record of getting top grades for essays and assignments. They will have excellent English and experience of presenting exemplary academic work.

They will help you to understand how to present your ideas as well as possible, so that you can apply this understanding to your future projects, and to your career after university.

How does our service work with the University's facilities?

Oxford Brookes has an excellent service called Upgrade. This service is free to students and offers general advice on how to improve a project. You should explore the University's Upgrade service before you talk to us.

Your tutor will also guide you on how to do well, and should be the first person you ask for advice on improving your grade.

All we can do is spend time with you to show you how to use your English better, and how to arrange your thoughts on the page.

What we can't do

We're not allowed to help you with research, ideas or conclusions, or any aspect of your work which earns marks. We cannot write your assignment for you, nor change it for you.

You should work with your presentation coach to understand their suggestions and make a conscious decision on whether to adopt them.

You must comply with the rules of your school when asking for coaching on presentation. If in doubt, consult your tutor or Head of School.

Can we improve your grade?

Not directly. We can show you how to correct your English, use the best language to express your ideas, and think about good layout.

In this way we can't improve your grade, but we can help you to achieve the grade your work deserves.

 What do you do now?

If you have an emergency deadline within three days call us on 07 7654 80625. Ordinarily you should book your coaching session at least a week before your deadline.

First, check that the rules of your school will allow you to get help with language and presentation. The guidelines should be in your course handbook, and your coach will ask to see a copy before you work together. If in doubt, ask your tutor. We're sorry but we can't help unless you're sure about what is and is not permissible.

You should also think about where your Coursework Coach can visit you – you'll need a computer with internet access and two chairs.

Then, make an online booking for two or three hours with a Coursework Coach. There is an option for one hour, but this is only for short queries and follow up visits. In our experience two hours is the very least you need to make any meaningful improvement to your presentation. Also the two hour visit is much better value than one hour.

When you send your booking, tell us your name, phone number, academic subject and the deadline for your assignment.

Next we will phone you – you don't even have to pay for a phone call. We will confirm what you need from your coaching session, and then your Coursework Coach will call to confirm date, time and venue.

Before your Coach visits you, you must complete your assignment to the best of your ability. Aim to finish in good time, and check the English yourself as well as you can. Remember, we cannot help you to write your assignment, just help you to improve the English and presentation.

Or, arrange a Quick Check , where we'll look at a copy of your finished work and email you back our thoughts on making it clearer. It will certainly help, but remember that learning to present your work is a skill you should invest real time in.

When you book a Quick Check, we'll contact you to arrange to look at your work. We will normally send you our thoughts within one working day.
